Controversial Bezaliel - Angel or Demon? Both? Neither? Shadow of God

Bezaliel
In my exploration of angels, there is an angel that has avoided being named to me until now. What I've been finding out is that he is the most misunderstood, shunned creature of God out there. With nicknames like, "Shadow of God" is it any wonder why this angel is surrounded by controversy. Is he a fallen angel? Or one of the Seraphim order doing God's work in secret? Did he in fact build the Ark of the Covenant?
Seeking more information, I found it on YouTube.
Myth Cast from YouTube asks...
What if there was an angel so mysterious, so powerful and so hidden...that even Heaven and Hell don't fully understand him? Meet Bezaliel - the 13th Watcher and Angel of Shadows.
In their short video linked in the show notes, they say that Bezaliel is mentioned as one of the Watchers, the 13th Watcher to be specific. Because of the nature of his work, he is not accepted in Heaven or Hell, and is begrudgingly envied by the other angels for the secret tasks he sets about doing for God, in the name of God.
Mentioned in the Book of Enoch, a book banned from the conventional bible, he is a figure of great mystery and intrigue.
More from Reddit:
His features are shrouded in darkness by a cloak that he wears at all times, and no method thus far has been able to reveal his face. He carries a sword that no one has ever seen him unsheathe, and a book that no one else has ever read, neither of which can be opened by any person besides him. Neither of these were present at the time of his fall, which confuses angels and demons alike.
Bezaliel can manipulate darkness, and he can make it tangible and very, very deadly. He can also summon shades and compel them to do his bidding. Lastly, he can teleport between areas of shadow, and become nearly invisible within them (though looking carefully enough will show that something is there).
Bezaliel speaks tersely, using few words and short sentences - not because he's stupid, but because he dislikes wasting time. He will serve any demon or human who can offer him a fair deal, but he also has a talent for making the other person regret it somehow.
Bezaliel's true goal is unclear to everyone else, as he has favored both Heaven and Hell at times. But it is clear that he has some plan, and that his actions have taken on a new urgency since the Hazbin Hotel opened, and IMP grew to a bustling business.

My brother and I would not eat vegetables. So my mom's big idea to get us to eat vegetables was to dip vegetables in tempura batter, and then we'd fondue them, and we loved it. So then we pretended to hate vegetables so that we get to do fondue.
SPEAKER_03Well, yeah, yeah. I mean, you literally can tempura anything and like it's good.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. Like a exact. I was just gonna say like a banana, but actually, that's I feel like that's fair food.
SPEAKER_03That would be good.
SPEAKER_01It'd be awesome. I know. I'm sure. Have you tried a Twinkie, a deep fried Twinkie?
SPEAKER_03No, no. I'm gonna kill myself on my own timeline, thanks.
SPEAKER_01Well, welcome to we are in season seven.
SPEAKER_03Please start the episode with what we just said.
SPEAKER_01I'm going to. That is how they're beginning. But I'm also gonna say this is season seven, heterotopia. We're looking at those liminal in-between spaces together with you guys and just kind of getting getting into it. I was gonna say getting into the mud, but that sounds really weird.
SPEAKER_03I guess I'm doing new thing. It's I can't I can't bag on the AI anymore, really, because it's not I was over it. Now we're gonna have to be like uh no, well, you know, the like when she do it like the recording in progress lady. Like now I have to go heterotopia, heterotopia, heterotopia.
SPEAKER_01It reminds us how to pronounce it because it's such a fancy word, and I like it.
SPEAKER_00I'm liking with it, but it's we need a jingle, we need a heterotopia jingle, heterotopia, heterotopia, heterotopia, heterotopia, it runs with popia, yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's we're gonna copia.
SPEAKER_00We're heterotopia.
SPEAKER_01Hey, get DJ Renegade on that, he can make us a song for it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm gonna do that. The DJ, it's the happy birthday, Bob. It's DJ Renegade's birthday today.
SPEAKER_01Oh, happy wow, happy birthday. It's my niece Lyra's birthday today. No kidding, happy birthday, Lyra. I hope it's a year for you.
SPEAKER_03When we when we play this episode, it won't be, but like it'll be your own birthday.
SPEAKER_01Happy unbirthday.
SPEAKER_03Merry Unbirthday.
SPEAKER_01So, Jesse, this week I wanted to teach you about an angel that I have sent you pictures of, and it's kind of freaky. And I know you have your demon book at hand, and we honest to God, do not know if it'll be in the demon book or if it's an angel because this angel I skimmed, and I I didn't, I didn't, I didn't find it. I know I gave you a little bit of a hint, but no, it was kind of the wrong information, it was a different one, and uh, we don't want to invoke any demons during our podcast, God forbid. Like we want to be in swim in the in-between spaces, but we don't actually want to do that with a lot of demons. So this is bazale. So think of like bizarre, bazale. So this is like the most confounding angel I've ever come across because I was doing morning minutes, and out of my pen is you need to explore, and out comes my pen, B-E-Z-A-L-I-E-L. And I write it down dutifully, and I'm like, what is this name, even? And this is how some of my most interesting experiments, experiences with angels and demons comes forward. Because uh, yeah, I've shared a lot of that on the podcast. But okay, so he is hard to find. You will find him online because I've got so many links in the show notes, but he is misunderstood, he is the most shunned creature of God out there, I think. His nickname is Shadow of God, and he is just surrounded by controversy. The angels booted him out of heaven because they're jealous, because he sits on the right hand side of God and does God's most secret tasks. Only he is entrusted to them. He is supposed to be part of the Seraphim order doing this work in secret. And some people wonder if he was the architect of the Ark of the Covenant. I mean, what?
SPEAKER_03So I've so I've so I've heard.
SPEAKER_01Wait, uh, I feel like Indiana Jones didn't tell us about Bazaliel. No, they left that part out. It was all about the snakes.
SPEAKER_03Bazaliel uh is is not in the Key of Solomon, so not in my book.
SPEAKER_01Uh so you've confirmed, okay. Yeah, I've confirmed. Okay, so I found um Gustav Davidson has this grimoire called The Dictionary of Angels, which I feel like you and I need to go find on eBay. So Gustav Davidson uh writes this. He said it's he's many of one of many non-canonical angels, which I think is kind of a nice way of saying fallen angel, but I'm not sure. And in some interpretations, he's portrayed as this angel who fell from grace. Although I have yet to find specifics about what the fall was. I feel like instead of being a fallen angel, he was shoved out by the other angels truly that were jealous of him. And I found this like YouTube video and this guy, it's clearly AI slop, but he wrote the um prose for it. This is what he says What if there was an angel so mysterious, so powerful, and so hidden that even heaven and hell don't fully understand him. Meet Bazaliel, the 13th watcher, an angel of shadows, and then there's this like short video, but it actually is pretty informative, even for AI slot.
SPEAKER_03It's like the beginning of like a movie, a new movie trailer, like a 24 presents, you know, Bazale. Bazale.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so he's not accepted in heaven, he's not accepted in hell, he's envied by by other angels, and he is mentioned in the book of Enoch, which book of Enoch has its own controversy, right? I mean, it the um I forget which there is a group of Christians, um, Ethiopian Christians that still keep the book of Enoch in their Bible. The Catholic Church had the book of Enoch in their Bible, King James Bible or whatever, for 243 years. And then all of a sudden somebody said, Hey, why is this book of Enoch in here? Let's get this crap out of here. And they got rid of it. But his description is scary. Like, Jesse, did I send you a picture of him?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I didn't like that picture.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. His features are shrouded in darkness. I found this from Reddit, by the way. So I don't have to do the voice, but he wears this cloak all the time, and no method thus far has been able to reveal his face. He carries a sword that no one has ever seen him unsheathe. And he has this book that no one else has ever read, neither of which can be opened. And I feel like a couple of those things exist right now in the shelves behind you, Jesse.
SPEAKER_03But none of these things can those are all safe books.
SPEAKER_01But okay, but back to Basalio. The book, no one's ever read it, and none of these things can be opened by any person, only himself. Neither of these were present at the time of his fall, which confuses angels and demons alike. Well, at least he's like confusing them all. This is what else I found from uh Reddit. He can manipulate darkness, he can make it tangible and very, very deadly. Now, this feels very Napoleon dynamite and very general to me. He can make it very, very deadly. Isn't that kind of like it's either deadly or it's not, but it's very, very deadly. Like you can die. It's like when I cook pork chops, I kill him twice. That's what it feels like.
SPEAKER_02Very, very deadly.
SPEAKER_01Or oh, can I have a tot? No, I can't do the voice. I wanted a tot.
SPEAKER_02He's he's an angel and a demon. It's like my favorite demon angel ever.
SPEAKER_01He can also wait, he can also summon shades and compel them to do his bidding. And by shades, I mean I think he means they mean shadow people.
SPEAKER_03A shadow demon. Yeah, is that what it's like Dungeons and Dragons cartoon? Remember?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but wait.
SPEAKER_03Ranger used to go shadow demon, and like a shadow demon would pop up. Is that what a shade is? Yeah, it's something like that. It's like a spirity, evil, like a formless sort of uh evil entity thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and the other thing is I don't think we'll ever get Bazaliel to, you know, anybody to channel Bazaliel to come on our podcast and be interviewed because he speaks tersely, he uses few words and short sentences, not because he's stupid, but because he doesn't like wasting time. And I would like to think he thinks we're not a waste of time.
SPEAKER_03But I don't want anybody to come on our podcast and channel that thing. I got enough problems.
SPEAKER_01I think it'd be interesting. You know, I'm reading about the Morrigan, which I'm not going to tell you about right now, but there's the priestess, and she actually they take turns and they become vessels for this uh goddess. Um, yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's what I was saying about Basalio. But he would be very short and sweet. Well, no, if a a guest, a future guest is channeling Basalio, because I'll be like, Yes, no, no comment. Like then we'll say, Hey, wait, are you channeling Basalio?
SPEAKER_03This is why I threw that thing from my Ouija board away that moved the movie part. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's called a planchet. You threw it away. Oh, yeah, I tossed that thing in the trash. I still got the Ouija board.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Does that mean that your board is an open portal, or it's just like this door is always forever opening? You doesn't have a thing to move around. So does that mean it's always locked shut? I mean, I guess. I don't know. I don't know either. I really feel like we're dancing on a fine line of needing Bazalial to give us some courage.
SPEAKER_03Look, I saw Wedgeboard. I'm not fucking with that.
SPEAKER_01The movie?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Did you play with it when you were younger?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And did you have it move? Did it move without you guys moving it?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. It moved.
SPEAKER_01And what did it say?
SPEAKER_03I don't remember what we asked it. We were just asking it dumb shit.
SPEAKER_01You know, okay, but it did move, and you guys were all like, I am not. Because we did the thing. I was like, nope. Wow. Because we did it, me and my girlfriends during sleepovers. You know, they say um girl sleepovers are so different than boys' sleepovers. We do a lot of different stuff, but we did a Ouija board and we cheated because it wasn't going anywhere. So we'd all just like barely touch it, but then make it move. It's like, does Richie Bosch like me? And they'd go, Yes. And we were like, We didn't do anything, but really we were all faking. We were faking.
SPEAKER_03Have you seen that video where the what you can hear all these girls like uh like in the next room? They're like, like these girls are having a sleepover and like they're they're asking the Ouija board questions. The whole video is just the dad standing next to the the breaker box, and he like he reaches over and flips the breaker, and like you hear them all start to scream.
SPEAKER_01That is the best dad.
SPEAKER_03The whole video is like great, yeah. Oh my god, that is it. He's just standing there, like listening to him, and just the just like rolling his eyes and smiling. He just reaches over and flips his breaker, and then you hear them through the wall, they're like they all start screaming, they you know, they're probably like 13-year-old girls or whatever, just you know, you know.
SPEAKER_01That is an awesome dad. Wow, talk about going above and beyond. That is so nice. Yeah, we didn't have any of that, but we definitely did the bloody Mary in the window, in the mirror, and we oh yeah, we did that, yeah. The light is a feather, um, stiff as a board. Did you guys do that? Oh, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I never really got into that one.
SPEAKER_01No, either. So Basalio can see other divine beings, which I feel like, yeah, no shit, Sherlock. He can see angels, deities, holy spirits, and even psychopomps. Hi, yeah, and their actions. He can also like actually discern their actions and gather divine knowledge. No, that none of that is really surprising.
SPEAKER_03He's maybe that's what he's writing in his book.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's writing, and then he's like, Nobody's gonna read my diary, yeah. Kind of, nobody's making a Judy Bloom book out of my diary. Seems like he's an observer, you know. Uh he yeah, he and but the the other thing is he almost has a superpower, which you don't want to be on the bad side of him because he can manipulate any and all information and knowledge. So it's like it's like, hey, CERN, you know, CERN is like, oh, we can do that too. And he's like, No, you hold my beer, I can actually do it.
SPEAKER_03So you don't yeah, like we haven't ever run into anything like that before.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, we've had it on our own show where all of a sudden this weird tech stuff is happening, but he so here's here's like more of like if you're on his bad side, they said that he can insert new knowledge into a universe that becomes established fact and reality, or destroy it to do the opposite. An enemy could be made to forget how to walk, while an ally could be given the knowledge of an enemy's weakness or mastery of a fighting skill, which feels kind of again, it's like Napoleon Dynamite, doesn't it? It feels like that. What was that um website that you showed us? The ninja one. Yeah, he could be given the knowledge of an enemy's weaknesses or mastery of a fighting style. Don't so don't be a Barfy baby.
SPEAKER_03Oh all ninjas are cool, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So all they do is flip out and kill people. I I had to know more about this whole thing about him maybe being the architect of the Ark of the Covenant, because like literally all I know about the Ark of the Covenant comes from Indiana Jones, which is probably too weird, but like oh it I'm not kidding.
SPEAKER_03In the last week, yeah, you're like the fifth person that's brought up the Ethiopian Bible, okay. And I heard a long time ago, I feel like it was an old Ark Bell, where some priest said that that's where the Ark of the Covenant supposedly is. It's in a church underneath the you know, in Ethiopia. It's it's it's buried underneath a church, and that's where it is. And uh there's there was because there's a high rate of like cancer around this church, and they feel like that's some sort of like energy, you know, like yeah, like even though it's even though it's buried, irradiation, you know, yeah, it's like yeah, it's like like it emits a radiation.
SPEAKER_01And don't they always say that? Because okay, um, they always say that it is not meant for human hands to touch, uh, and and that does connote kind of radiation, like it's almost like um, so here's what I found from the book of Exodus about the details of it. It this chest was built of akasha wood, it measured two and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits wide, and one and a half cubits high. So if you're like don't know the qubit scale, like what's wrong with you? But also, this is basically 45 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 27 inches high, which to me is so much smaller than I pictured in my head. And that's why I have to out myself and say, I think that's from Indiana Jones.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, pretty much.
SPEAKER_01That's a bad way to get your education, kids.
SPEAKER_03So the well, no, it's I I think there's a there's a part in the there's a part in the Bible or something, right? That's what I'm reading. Yeah, the book of Exodus. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but they do it in qubits. But this box is inlaid with gold on the inside and the outside, and there are these finished ornamental golden borders around the top of the rim, and then there's these four solid gold rings that are attached to the four feet of the ark, two on each side. So that's because the um the human hands can't touch it, so they have to put a pole through those rings to lift it and carry it. And then there's this thing on the ark, which I never heard of before I did this research called the mercy seat. The mercy seat, like I feel like that's what we called the toilet when we drank too much, but whatever. But it's not, it's a thing on apparently the Ark of the Covenant.
SPEAKER_03And I found yeah, it's like a Nick Cave song, too.
SPEAKER_01It is. There's a Nick Cave song called Mercy Seat. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Wait, what is it about?
SPEAKER_03Uh, I don't necessarily remember what the song's about.
SPEAKER_01I sure put you on the spot, didn't I? We'll do some research and get back to me because this mercy seat is solid gold, it's the lid of the ark, and it was not made of wood at all. It was like truly pure solid gold. So no wonder that thing was so heavy. And um, God promised that he would meet with the Israelites from, quote, above the mercy seat and speak with them, quote, from between the two cherubim. That means that the lid of the Ark of the Covenant served as nothing less than the throne of God when he was on earth. Um, okay, and then no description of the ark would be complete without mentioning the cherubim. And I found this from Pastor Russell McKinney's blog. He wrote this atop the cover were two golden cherubim, hammered out of the same single piece of gold as the lid itself, the mercy seat. The two figures faced one another with their wings spread outward and upward, overshadowing the mercy seat. Um, the ark was seen, as you were mentioning, too precious or danger, dangerous or hallowed to be touched by human hands. So there were those poles that they would use to lift and carry it. And inside the ark was found stone tablets. They were inscribed with the Ten Commandments, but that wasn't all of the ark's precious cargo, apparently. According to the New Testament's book of Hebrews, the ark also contained a golden urn filled with mana and Aaron's staff that had miraculously blossomed. And I just have to say one other thing about those tablets in there, they were replacement tablets because Moses had a tantrum out in the desert, and he was so pissed off about humanity that he broke the original ones in pieces. So then God's like, fine, I'll give you the another version of a I always thought that's what was in the ark were the pieces.
SPEAKER_03No, it's apparently they were a redo.
SPEAKER_01He got a do-over. If you're Moses, you get to do a do-over, apparently.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, I knew that, but like I remember him smashing tablets, but I thought that's that was the thing. Like that's why they were in the I don't know.
SPEAKER_01No, it's not the bits and pieces, apparently. No, I have it on good sources that that's not where the bits and pieces. You know, I feel like the desert just swallowed them up, right? I think that it just I don't have an answer to that. Are you just deflecting uh the conversation because you don't want to tell me about the mercy seat and cave? Well, suddenly I'm like, I'm like, wait, are those still on top of the mountain? They probably are, but I feel like it's too late. It's been like thousands of years. I feel like you can't sift through and find them. But like God made them, right?
SPEAKER_03Or like, well, you know, God made Moses made them.
SPEAKER_01And it was both sides.
SPEAKER_03The mercy seat is a dramatic monologue from the perspective of a death row inmate facing imminent execution in the electric chair. So it's uh it's basically uh, he's using it as a as an electric chair metaphor. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh my God, which actually brings me back. We um just had recorded the trailer for this season, um, this brand new season. And you were talking about this author that was mentioning about heterotopia, uh, liminal spaces, and he was mentioning that. Prison is one of the liminal spaces. And I was like, we need to talk to an ex uh convict, like a prisoner, somebody, and just see what that experience was like. I know our friend Leslie Fear, friend of the show, she um speaks to people that have been in prison prison for long periods of time, and that would be a very interesting conversation.
SPEAKER_03That would be wild.
SPEAKER_01I feel kind of like compelled to do that. That I feel like that's important to do. All right. So I got us off track a little bit, but if we look, let's be fair.
SPEAKER_03I'm the one that gets us off track. You're doing fine. Keep going.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Well, I guess the it maybe it's not as important as our side. I actually love our asides, but uh, I guess Bazaliel was in charge of holy oils and incense and priestly vestments as well. And Caleb was his great grandfather. And then the rabbinical tradition relates that when God determined to appoint Bazaliel, architect of the desert tabernacle, he asked Moses whether the choice was agreeable to him. I mean, God is asking you a question, and he received the reply, Lord, if he is acceptable to thee, surely he must be so to me. I feel like that's good advice for everybody that has a boss that says, We want your opinion and you want to keep your job right now in this economy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, let's do that.
SPEAKER_01You say, Lord, if it is acceptable to thee, surely it is acceptable to me. So we can just practice that. Listen to that like three or four times in a row.
SPEAKER_03We should literally make shirts.
SPEAKER_01Let's make shirts. He possessed such great wisdom that he could combine letters of the alphabet with which heaven and earth were created. Pretty neat. And then also he has this legacy. There's a Basale Academy of Arts and Design in Israel. Um, it's a public college of design and art located in Jerusalem. And it was established in 1906 by a Jewish painter and sculptor, Boris Schatz, and it still exists now. It's located adjacent to the Russian compound in the city center. Um, and it's a very historic campus, apparently. I had to do a smidgen more digging, so I hope you don't mind because I that's when I found that image of him. It is so disturbing. It's by an artist, and I'm not AI, so I'm not going to steal their art, but I will have it linked in the show notes because it's they give hints to his face, and it almost reminds me of when people have had UFO alien encounters with mantis, like the praying mantis beings. That's what the hint of his face looks like that is covered by the cloak. But um, I found this. He is um, I asked AI about some key symbols and visual signs. He's usually shrouded or blurred in form. He his defining visual symbol is he's a humanoid shape obscured by this veil of darkness, making it impossible to see his true features or distinguish light sources on his body. Do any of us have light sources on our body? Like I feel kind of self-conscious right now. He has these bright white eyes, like they're super bright white eyes. So when he's under stress or actively observing, his face remains hidden, but his eyes flare with a piercing, stark white light. And then I found this from the Angelarium project. They talk about that sheathed sword and the book that he carries. The book is like this leather-strapped book that contains forbidding and unseen knowledge and also his diary. We have we've intuited his thematic. I asked for some of the themes around him, shifting shadows. He's conceptually associated with a breeze. So if you're asking for Bazaliel's like advice on something, and literally I'm feeling a breeze right through my midsection right now, and there's no window open behind me. And when I was on the hill yesterday, I was thinking of Bazale and this huge breeze blew through because I was doing some magic um on Castle Rock, because that's where, of course, now my throat chakra closes up, but that's where the KKK would meet um for a short period of time in Colorado's history. So I was up there just basically shouting, love winds, love winds, love winds. And I said, I need proof that this is no longer acceptable. And love wins, and this gigantic breeze came through. And I was thinking of Basalio when I was doing it. So I did I kind of forgot that he comes with shifting branches and a breeze. And also basalio comes with shadows that seem larger than the object casting them. So I feel like you could see him in the woods by you. And then um, I was trying to think the oh, spiritually, the sign of Basalio is this feeling of being watched or stalked by your own shadow, symbolizing inner secrets and hidden truths. So there is a shadow, but you're casting it on yourself. And again, cool drafts that I mentioned, manifestations of his presence that are often described as sudden, cool touches against your skin. So I hope people have fun kind of diving into Basalio this week. I'm sure I'll have more um in the show notes, and I might do just a pull-out that's just a couple of the Basalio 101s um as a little short one for Tuesday. But he's interesting. I just find him the perfect. If we had to pick like a um, you know, a saint, a patron saint of season seven, I feel like it would be bazale.
SPEAKER_03It does fit everything you're saying about him, you know, it it does fit in with with the heterotopia thing, you know, you know, because it's like stuff that's there, but it's not there, it's in the back you but you don't notice it and shrouded, you know what I mean? Like a lot of it like resonated with me like that. So I think you're right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, me too. Yeah, I feel that way too. Well, anyway, that was our deep dive. Go check him out. And oh, look at the images of him online and listen to the Nick Cave song, all linked to his YouTube mercy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I can't even remember the song. I like I can hear it in my head, but I can't do it. That sounded like the theme to Peaky Blinders, yeah. Well, that I mean that's Nick Cave too.
SPEAKER_01I know it is, I know, but that's I'm just calling you out. Okay, no, I mean, no judgment. I love it.
SPEAKER_03Bye, listeners. Love you. Bye, everyone.
